[edit] BJJ Community Portal (wiki)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and choke holds to force an opponent to submit (from wikipedia).

It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.

  • "It is only with a lot of training and dedication that we can achieve something. A brave man, a real fighter is not measured by how many times he fall, but how many times he stand up. Always be ready to fight, to win and to forgive when necessary. Good luck and train hard!" by Rickson Gracie

[edit] Action items

  1. We are trying to create a database of BJJ matches. If you have a link for a Black belt BJJ match and a video, please create a page for it. For example, look at the Marcelo Garcia and Roger Gracie match pages.
  2. Document techniques. Look at the Half Guard sweeps for example.
  3. Tournament results. We already create brackets for all ADCC matches (in all weight categories) and we plan to do that for the Mundial and others. For example, look at Tournaments:ADCC2007.
  4. Reviews of DVDs. If you watched an instructional, please add your review at Instructionals.
  5. List of BJJ sites: Links. Add your blog, site, podcast in there!
  6. Create a GLOG (grappling log) for yourself! Just choose a page name and start blogging. For example: Logs:JonnyGB
